“I decided to go in the Azure direction”

As a captain of his football team, Ahmed Babić knows the importance of being a team player. Today, he’s based in our Sarajevo office where he works as an Azure DevOps engineer.

Ahmed was born in Zenica, a little industrial town in the heart of Bosnia.

“I finished primary school and gymnasium with focus on Informatics and Mathematics. As a child, I always loved sports. Especially football, so I decided to give it my best and kept going for many years. As a former athlete and a captain of my team, I learnt early on what it means to be a team player. After graduating high school, my Sarajevo journey began. I got a Bachelor degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the International University of Sarajevo. My university has an international atmosphere, and I spent one semester at the Yildiz Technical University in Istanbul. So I learned a lot about different cultures, languages and people.“

Ahmed’s first contact with System Verification was in 2019, when he applied for Summership, the company’s training program for students about to graduate. As it turned out, he wasn’t chosen for the program. But things worked out pretty well anyway.

“I had decided to develop a career within IT, so I’d been searching for a company that would take on a young, hard-working and ambitious individual. I didn’t get the internship, but then I was called for another interview. And I was offered a full-time employment in the company, just one day after I received my Bachelor degree diploma.”

He started off as a test engineer. After getting an ISTQB certification, Ahmed’s role evolved. He’s now an Azure DevOps engineer. So you could say that he’s currently unlocking potential through Azure DevOps.

“My current assignment is for Alfa Laval. In the beginning, the role as an Azure DevOps engineer was related to upgrades, maintenance and incident management in TFS. Our team then expanded its competences to migrations, process implementation, analytics and metrics. The next level was our Azure DevOps University, where we created courses and training for Agile teams with focus on the tool and process. And as a jewel in our competence crown, we have now fully utilised and mastered the DevOps tool, CI/CD. What we have achieved? Faster deliveries and transparency! Now we are serving as a tool expert within the two client’s entities.”

Competence development is more or less part of Ahmed’s day-to-day work.

“I started gaining knowledge from day one. After the ISTQB cerification, System Verification has given me many opportunities and the freedom to broaden my skills. I decided to go in the Azure direction, by acquiring an Azure Administrator ceritifcation. At the same time, I got the chance to improve my soft skills with a Coaching employees course. This helps me in my communication and approach to people and problems. I’m now starting the Test Star programme to develop competences in Test Automation. And on top of all this, the greatest part is that the company is providing Udemy for Business where we can search for any topics and courses to develop ourselves.“

Ahmed wraps things up with a few words on the atmosphere in the office.

“Our team consists of great people from all over the country. The part I love the most is “fika” – daily time with friends and colleagues, where we share a cup of coffee and a little something to eat. It is worth mentioning that we have a great office space for either enjoying your morning coffee with the team or playing games in the afternoon.

Working for System Verification has been exciting and fun right from the start. The best part is, they care a lot about your future development, wishes and opinions. The company really supports you on your learning path.”
